ENTREPRENEURIAL spirit is on the up in Sunderland.

New figures show almost 20 per cent more new businesses starting up in the city in the first half of 2010, compared with the same period last year.

Figures from the BankSearch Information Consultancy reveal a total of 871 new businesses launched between the beginning of January and the end of June.

That compares to 734 started between January and June 2009.
