Southwark Council Economic Development Bulletin – Key Statistics September 2011

Business Start-ups – July 2011
 
• 16.8% more businesses started up in Southwark during the first seven months of this year compared with the corresponding period of last year, according to latest data from a BankSearch survey.
• 364 new businesses started up in July 2011, 36 fewer than the previous month.
• 97% of all new commercial enterprises were based in urban areas. By ward, Riverside saw the most start-ups; College saw the least.
• The top three industries for new start-ups were Real Estate, Renting, Computer, and other Business; Wholesale and Retail trade; and Recreational, Personal, and Community Service .
