1.9% fewer businesses started up in the South East during January and February than the corresponding period last year, according to latest data from a BankSearch survey.

Growth in the number of start-ups across the country has slowed. So far this year London (+1.6%), East Midlands (+0.8%) and South West (+0.6%) have seen the strongest regional annual growth compared to the corresponding period in 2011. North West (-3.3%) and the North East (-7.3%) have had the weakest growth.

In South East 7,012 new businesses started up in February 2012, 67 fewer than the previous month.
