14.9% more businesses started up in Mainland during the first eleven months of this year compared to the same period last year. This was a faster rate of increase than in England where the number of company formations rose by 14.6% during the corresponding time periodIn Britain 45,055 new businesses started up in November 2010, 1,420 less than the previous month. 

There are wide variations in the number of start-ups across the country. So far this year Scotland (+25.8%) London (+21.6%) and the East of England (+15.9%) have seen the strongest regional year-to-date growth compared to the corresponding period in 2009. The West Midlands (+7.2%) and Wales (+7.7%) have had the weakest growth.
