In November 2008, BankSearch was given the green light to monitor the green shoots of business activity.

Working in conjunction with banks and the British Bankers Association (BBA), BankSearch has started to create a national database of business start-ups.

Michael Anderson, Head of Sales and Marketing said: "Existing measures of business starts fall short and do not provide a complete picture of activity. Start-ups are important generators of jobs and they help the economy grow. Measuring the number of new businesses has never been more important. We look forward to working with the banks and BBA on this important initiative".
